Three patience games, and the honest way to pick between them is by how much the deal decides for you. Klondike — plain Solitaire, the one that came with every computer — hides most of the pack face down, so some deals simply cannot be won and the skill is in reading what you can see; take Draw 1 for a gentle evening and Draw 3 when you want it to argue back. FreeCell is the opposite proposition: every card is visible from the first second, nearly every deal is winnable, and losing means you took it apart in the wrong order. Pick it when you want the deck to stop being the villain. Spider Solitaire sits between them and is the longest sitting of the three — two decks, ten columns, and a rule that lets you place almost anything but move almost nothing, which is why a tidy-looking board can still be dead. All three keep unlimited undo, so experimenting costs nothing but time.
