How to Play
Tap a piece, then tap the square you want to move it to — legal moves are highlighted so you always know exactly what's available before committing. The engine plays the other side automatically after each of your moves, calculating several moves deep even at its default strength. It's set to a strong but beatable level — look a couple of moves ahead before committing, since Stockfish punishes hanging pieces immediately and doesn't offer takebacks.
Tips
- Develop your knights and bishops before moving the same piece twice — Stockfish punishes slow, repetitive openings by seizing the center early.
- Don't move your queen out early — it's easy to chase around the board with tempo-gaining attacks from minor pieces.
- Look for hanging pieces before committing to a move — the engine is tactically sharp and will take any undefended piece immediately.
- Castle early to get your king to safety — an exposed king in the center is the fastest way to lose material to a forced sequence.
